Canonbury Square neighbours launched Friends of Canonbury Square in 2018 to put the sparkle back in the Square.

Our focus is on gardening – weeding, tidying the raised beds, nourishing the soil and planting bulbs.

With support and guidance from the Canonbury Society, we have been seeking supporters and volunteers from our neighbourhood. We are working with Islington Council’s Greenspace team, Islington Gardeners, the Arlington Association’s gardeners, and others to maintain the beautiful planting of both gardens in the square.

Friends of Canonbury Square (FoCS) is also dedicated to locking the gates of the square overnight to prevent anti-social behaviour. Gate-locking volunteers will be trained via the Council and will always work in pairs.

We are really keen that Canonbury Square retains its vibe as an open, welcoming public space – while making it beautiful and enjoyable for all!

If you’d like to join the community effort to protect and revive Canonbury Square, please contact us for more info on gardening and gate-locking.

We hold community gardening days every third Saturday of the month from 10am.
